Syensqo operates a Global Business Services (GBS) Finance organization delivering standardized Finance services and continuous improvement across regions. The MAC Expert strengthens the Management Accounting capability by combining strong controlling/MAC operational know-how with hands-on process automation to increase efficiency, reliability, and scalability of MAC processes.
Role purpose:
The MAC Expert is a key member of the Management Accounting team who:
- ensures high-quality execution of MAC activities (close, analysis, reporting) as a Finance team member, and
- drives practical automation by deeply understanding MAC needs and leveraging tools such as SAP (including table-level/data logic understanding), Power Query, VBA, and SAP scripting.
This role delivers solutions from within the Finance/MAC team, with strong functional understanding.
Key responsibilities:
1) Management Accounting delivery & business partnership (finance core)
- Support monthly close activities and ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of MAC deliverables.
- Contribute to activities such as P&L-related reporting, inventory accounts reconciliation, and fixed asset-related MAC topics as applicable in scope.
- Ensure activities comply with IFRS, statutory requirements, and internal control requirements.
- Provide costing support (e.g., cost analysis, allocations/absorption checks, and variance explanations impacting inventory valuation and COGS).
- Partner with Controllers / Finance stakeholders to resolve issues, explain variances, and improve outcomes.
- Support internal/external audits by providing analysis, documentation, and evidence.
2) Process excellence, automation & continuous improvement (primary focus)
- Identify, design, and implement automation opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and data quality across MAC processes (closing, reconciliations, reporting).
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting and “debugging” of process/data issues, including deep dives into SAP logic and underlying data/tables to locate root causes and automation opportunities.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using tools such as:
o Power Query
o VBA
o SAP scripting
- Document automated routines, controls, and work instructions to ensure continuity, auditability, and maintainability.
- Monitor performance, propose standardization, and drive sustainable fixes with stakeholders.
3) Knowledge sharing & team enablement
- Coach/enable analysts and peers on new automated routines, templates, and best practices.
- Support onboarding/training and promote standardization across the MAC community.
Scope / Interfaces:
- Interfaces with: MAC team, Controllers, Accounting/Reporting stakeholders, Master Data and other Finance teams; coordinates with IT when needed, while keeping ownership of Finance process improvements within MAC.
Required qualifications & experience
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or similar.
- Strong experience in Management Accounting / Controlling and month-end close environment.
- Hands-on experience with SAP in a controlling/accounting context (e.g., CO and related areas; Fixed Assets exposure is a plus).
Technical skills:
- Advanced SAP know-how, including ability to investigate issues using “behind-the-scenes” understanding (data structures/tables, dependencies, root cause).
- Proven track record automating Finance processes using:
o Power Query / Power BI
o VBA
o SAP scripting
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills: ability to break down ambiguous problems, test hypotheses, and implement robust solutions.
