We are seeking a passionate N&T Network Designer to drive the design and development of robust, scalable network solutions for rail systems. Act as the Subsystem Leader for Network & Telecom (N&T), assuming full technical responsibility for the subsystem. The role covers all activities from network architecture definition and project documentation generation to advanced logical configuration of network and telecommunications equipment.
Your Role, Your Impact
- Elaborate N&T Backbone Transmission Network (BTN) Design specifications (Preliminary Design & Detailed Design) in line with N&T Engineering rules and relying on best practices inherited from previous projects (cross reviews with installation teams, cybersecurity teams, power experts…)
- Ensure that all N&T BTN Design elaboration follows Quality processes, including application of Adapt and Design N&T Processes, Methods and Guidelines
- Ensure that BTN Design documents remain in line with project DFQ Gate Reviews milestones and are elaborated as per project Documentation plan
- Minimize, by Design, the N&T BTN deployment cost, lead time and risks
- Develop and elicit BTN Design requirements in line with project needs (internal & external), with a specific focus on BTN dimensioning and Cybersecurity concerns
- Check that external interfaces are consistent with N&T sub-system
- Contribute to project addressing plan elaboration with Project System teams
- Prepare & Execute technical room (Switching Equipment Rooms) surveys
- Elaborate N&T BTN BoQ, including Design elaboration of BTN cubicles
- Prepare and participate in Design Reviews
- Maintain close follow-up on technical gaps implementation (BTN related)
- Manage technical issues identified on BTN part
- Open and follow technical Change Requests to Product Engineering teams in charge of N&T products and solutions
- Participate to the support of the functional validation phase of the sub-system (FIVP) for BTN part
- Participate upon request, to Installation & T&C activities support activities in order to validate E2E performance, including support to troubleshooting tasks
- Collect and consolidate Return of Experience (REX) to Product Engineering teams and to N&T Project Engineering teams
- Provide iteration of the installation studies specific to N&T sub-system for BTN part
- Provide iteration of the BTN and Radio configuration files all along project life cycle till end of warranty period,
- Remain in constant contact with Project N&T Design Leader all along the project life cycle regarding progress of BTN Design activities
- Promote the Alstom Code of Ethics and adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
Mandatory Skills
Network Engineering and Protocols
- Solid command of the TCP/IP stack and essential protocols: UDP, ICMP, ARP, DHCP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and SNMP.
- Routing and Switching: BGP, OSPF, VLANs (802.1Q), STP/RSTP/MSTP.
- Critical Services: NTP, IGMP, and QoS.
- Knowledge of NAT (Static, Dynamic, and PAT) and Redundant Networks (Failover/High Availability).
Optical Infrastructure and Backbone
- Strong knowledge of backbone architecture and high-capacity networks.
Wireless Technologies
- Proven experience with Wi-Fi in the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency bands.
- Coverage planning and interference mitigation.
Monitoring and Systems
- Zabbix: installation, configuration, template creation, triggers, and dashboards.
- Linux: basic system administration and network services.
- Troubleshooting: advanced use of Wireshark and diagnostics of latency and packet loss.
Technical Management
- Development of project documentation and network architecture.
- Requirements management and customer technical interface.
Desirable Skills
- Virtualization - Knowledge of virtual environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) for hosting Linux/Zabbix servers.
- Network Security - Configuration of Firewalls, VPN (IPSec/SSL), and ACLs.
- Automation - Scripting in Bash or Python.
- Railway Knowledge - System-level understanding of telecommunications and signaling interfaces (Interlocking, ATS, ATC, ATO) to ensure proper subsystem integration.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities; analytical mindset; teamwork skills.
- Previous experience: Experience in radio system design and network design, including execution, configuration and installation of platforms;
- Language skills: Fluent English; intermediate Spanish.
- Occasional Travel required
