About Quectel
Quectel is one of the world's leading suppliers of cellular IoT modules, antennas, and connectivity services, with more than 4,000 professionals across 8 R&D centers and 50+ sales offices worldwide. Our technology powers everything from smart meters and connected cars to industrial robots and point-of-sale terminals — quietly enabling billions of devices to talk to the cloud.
A New Chapter: Quectel in Manaus
This is something special. Quectel is launching a brand-new operation in Manaus, Brazil — and we're building the founding team right now.
Hosted at ICT Manaus (Instituto Centro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento em Tecnologia de Software), an accredited Science, Technology and Innovation Institution under SUFRAMA's CAPDA framework, this new setup will become Quectel's regional engine for R&D, customer enablement, and ANATEL certification across Latin America.
Joining now means more than taking a job — it means shaping a team, a culture, and a way of working from day one. Your fingerprints will be on everything we build here.

The Role
We're hiring one of the founding software engineers for Quectel's brand-new Manaus setup. You'll work on the embedded Linux software stacks running inside Quectel's cellular IoT modules — Qualcomm-based platforms supporting LTE, 5G, and LPWA technologies — and you'll be the go-to software expert for customers across Latin America.
Because the team is being built from scratch, you'll have unusual influence: the tooling, the development workflows, the customer-engagement model, the way we triage and resolve field issues — these are decisions you'll help make, not inherit. You'll collaborate closely with Quectel's global R&D centers while owning the LATAM software story end to end.
"You get the depth of an embedded Linux job — kernel, drivers, Yocto — and the rare chance to help build a brand-new operation from day one. That combination doesn't come around often."
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain software modules for Quectel cellular modems (LTE / 5G / LPWA) on Qualcomm SoCs.
- Build and tune Linux-based networking systems for IoT devices and gateways — TCP/IP, sockets, routing, the works.
- Develop device drivers, daemons, and system services on embedded Linux.
- Hunt down issues across the full stack — kernel, Yocto build system, middleware, and applications.
- Use Wireshark, tcpdump, and your debugging instincts to crack tough field and lab problems.
- Support LATAM customers directly: develop new SW features, debug their issues, maintain the SW stack, and improve our demo applications.
- Partner with hardware, integration, and QA teams during board bring-up and validation.
- Contribute to architecture decisions and performance optimization for the next generation of modules.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience with embedded Linux, cellular modem development, or both.
- Hands-on experience with Qualcomm-based modem SoCs and their firmware.
- Strong C and C++ skills, with a real understanding of microcontroller/microprocessor architecture.
- Solid knowledge of Linux internals and system programming.
- Comfort with the Linux network stack and packet analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump).
- Working knowledge of Linux networking: TCP/IP, sockets, routing.
- Day-to-day experience with Git and Agile workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the communication chops to work directly with customers.
- Fluent in English and Portuguese; Spanish is a plus.
Bonus Points For
- Yocto Project or other embedded Linux build framework experience.
- RTOS exposure.
- LPWA experience (NB-IoT, LTE-M) and familiarity with cellular certification.
- Prior FAE or customer-engineering experience in the LATAM region.
The Tech You'll Work With
- Quectel's cellular module portfolio — 5G, LTE-A, LTE Cat 1/4, NB-IoT, and LTE-M, all on Qualcomm SoCs.
- LATAM in production — see the Furukawa Electric LatAm case study for an example of the kind of work you'll support.
- Quectel blog & insights — deep dives on cellular IoT, edge compute, and industry trends.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Founding-team energy — you're not joining an established office, you're building one. The processes, the culture, the technical playbook — you'll help write it.
- Real impact from day one — your decisions and designs ship inside products used by millions across LATAM.
- Backed by a global leader — startup feel, but with the technology, customers, and resources of a 4,000-person publicly-listed IoT company behind you.
- Direct line to global R&D — work side-by-side with our R&D centers in China, Europe, and North America while staying rooted in Manaus's growing tech ecosystem.
- Cutting-edge technology — 5G, LPWA, AI at the edge, smart camera modules, and the next generation of connected devices.
- Career growth on a fast curve — early team members typically grow into senior technical or leadership roles as the operation scales.
- Customer-facing exposure — directly shape how leading LATAM brands build their connected products.
- Competitive package — attractive compensation, benefits, and the stability of a global market leader.
