The Work
(What you’ll be doing & Your Impact)
- Architect and build backend systems that combine AI-assisted workflows, product systems, and real-world operational environments
- Design scalable systems and orchestration patterns that support long-running, stateful processes across multiple systems and teams
- Build product experiences where AI supports human decision-making, automates repetitive workflows, and helps teams operate more efficiently
- Partner closely with operations, product, and design teams to understand operational complexity, edge cases, and real-world failure points
- Own technical direction, architectural decisions, and engineering best practices as the platform continues to scale
- Improve reliability, observability, auditability, and maintainability across production systems
- Mentor engineers through collaboration, technical discussions, and design reviews while helping raise the overall bar for engineering quality and systems thinking
Needed Expertise
(What you need to succeed in the role)
- 6+ years of experience building and operating production software systems
- Strong backend engineering experience and comfort working across distributed, asynchronous, or event-driven systems
- Experience designing and owning complex systems end to end, including architectural decisions, technical trade-offs, and long-running workflow orchestration patterns
- Experience building AI-powered products, automations, AI agents, or LLM-assisted workflows in production, including familiarity with tools like Claude, OpenAI, or similar LLM platforms
- Strong product and systems thinking, with comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces with incomplete information
- Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with operations, product, design, and engineering stakeholders
- Strong communication skills with a high degree of ownership, accountability, and autonomy
Not Required But Nice To Have Expertise
(What would be great for you to have)
- Experience designing systems in healthcare, fintech, or other operationally complex or regulated environments
- Understanding of auditability, compliance, or data privacy requirements such as HIPAA
- Experience integrating with legacy, unreliable, or third-party external systems
- Exposure to human-in-the-loop workflows or review-based operational systems
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, observability, or modern deployment workflows
