Overview:
The Data Center, Server & Storage Analyst is a key member of the IT infrastructure team, responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of the organization's server, storage, and comprehensive backup systems within the data center environment. This role ensures the high availability, performance, and integrity of critical data and systems. The Analyst will manage complex technical challenges, assist with the implementation and optimization of backup strategies, perform capacity planning, contribute to disaster recovery plans, and provide operational support. This position often involves collaborating with other IT teams.
Main Accountabilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual server infrastructure (e.g., Windows Server, Linux distributions, UNIX, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex server-related incidents and problems.
- Implement and manage server patching, updates, and firmware upgrades to maintain security and stability.
- Monitor server performance, resource utilization, and health, proactively identifying and addressing issues.
- Administer and maintain enterprise-level storage solutions, including Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and direct-attached storage (DAS).
- Manage storage allocation, provisioning, and de-provisioning, ensuring efficient data placement and utilization.
- Monitor storage performance, capacity, and health, proactively identifying and resolving potential bottlenecks.
- Implement and manage data protection features at the storage level, such as snapshots, replication, and deduplication.
- Design, implement, configure, and manage enterprise-wide data backup and recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Veritas NetBackup).
- Oversee daily backup operations, ensuring successful completion of all scheduled backups and timely resolution of failures.
- Document and regularly test data recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and meet Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Manage backup retention policies, offsite storage, and archiving solutions.
- Perform data restores as requested and troubleshoot complex backup/restore issues.
- Optimize backup infrastructure for performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Contribute to the operational efficiency and reliability of the physical data center environment.
- Participate in hardware procurement, racking, cabling, and inventory management for server and storage assets.
- Ensure compliance with data center operational procedures, security policies, and industry best practices.
- Monitor server, storage, and backup system performance metrics, analyzing trends to anticipate future resource needs.
- Conduct regular capacity planning and forecasting for all managed infrastructure components.
- Optimize system configurations to enhance performance and resource utilization.
- Implement and enforce security policies and access controls for server, storage, and backup systems.
- Ensure all systems adhere to internal security standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments related to infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues affecting servers, storage, and backup systems.
- Perform in-depth root cause analysis for recurring problems and implement permanent solutions.
- Maintain detailed incident and problem records.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, operational procedures, backup policies, and knowledge base articles.
- Actively participate in infrastructure projects related to upgrades, migrations, or new technology implementations for servers, storage, and backup systems.
Knowledge and Technical Competencies:
- Operating Systems: In-depth knowledge in Windows Server (Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell) and/or various Linux distributions (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Virtualization: Proficiency in VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, SRM) and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Storage Technologies: Experience with enterprise SAN (Fibre Channel, iSCSI), NAS solutions, and associated hardware (e.g., Dell EMC, NetApp, HPE).
- Backup & Recovery Platforms: Solid experience with at least one leading enterprise backup solution (e.g., Veeam Backup & Replication, Commvault, Rubrik, Veritas NetBackup); experience with multiple platforms is a strong plus.
- Scripting: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation of routine tasks and reporting.
- Networking: Solid understanding of networking concepts relevant to server, storage, and backup (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Fibre Channel zoning).
- Hardware: Familiarity with server hardware (e.g., Dell, HP, Cisco UCS), storage arrays, and tape libraries.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining technical issues clearly and concisely.

- Commitment to continuous learning and staying abreast of new technologies in the data center, backup, server, and storage domains.
Education/Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant industry certifications may substitute for some experience.
- Experience: Typically 7+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years specifically focused on server, storage, and backup administration in an enterprise data center environment.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) - Data Center Virtualization
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or relevant MCSA/MCSE (legacy)
- Relevant storage vendor certifications (e.g., Dell EMC Specialist, NetApp Certified Data Administrator)
- Backup-specific certifications (e.g., Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE), Commvault Certified Professional, Rubrik Certified Professional).
- Fluent English is required.
