About the Role
The most successful consumer technology companies are brilliant storytellers who put their products - as well as the benefits of those products- front and center in every communication. As a Safety Communications Associate, you will support Uber's safety communications efforts across Brazil, based in Sao Paulo. This role reports to the Safety Communications Director for LATAM, and as a team, you will work to tell our safety story.
What the Candidate Will Do
- Establish Uber's safety story highlighting our technology and innovation with local media and third parties.
- Develop a compelling and consistent narrative on Uber's commitment to safety.
- Respond to media requests and crisis management on safety issues.
- Work closely across Uber's teams, including Social Media, Immediate Response Team, Safety Ops, Policy, Public Safety and Legal, on gathering information for external communications.
- Lead monitoring, reporting, and coordination with PR firms.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in topics related to external communications.
- Relevant experience will include some combination of journalism, agency experience, in-house communications, and experience in complex safety, government, or policy communications.
- Active media relations.
- Excellent oral and written skills.
- Proficiency in English and Portuguese.
- Strong familiarity with social media.
- Ability to leverage AI tools.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Flexible work schedule, including but not limited to weekend work hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- A self-starter: Uber is a company of entrepreneurs, and we want to work with people who enjoy building things from the bottom up, too. Stuff changes fast in our world, so you'll need to be highly adaptable as well as calm under pressure;
- A great advocate: We're looking for people who can distill complex ideas into simple, intellectually credible arguments. You'll need to write well and have the creative ability to tell stories about our product, people, and how we're helping to improve safety for riders, drivers, delivery people, and cities.
- A strong campaigner: Ridesharing apps are disruptive, and the interests being disrupted are deeply entrenched. We succeed by putting together effective campaigns with third parties for those using the app. That means you'll have a bias for action in everything you do and a willingness to engage in safety debates that can often become heated.
- A team player: Success at Uber depends on organizing different teams (internally and externally) around shared goals. That's why we're looking for well-organized people who enjoy working with others to get stuff done and can deal with the ambiguity that sometimes comes from cross-functionally working.
