SECTION 01: About Flax Labs
Flax Labs is a full-service D2C ecommerce growth agency based in Canada, working exclusively with US and Canadian Shopify brands. We run Meta + Google ads, creative production, landing pages, and email/SMS for brands doing $50K–$500K+/month in revenue. We're building the most AI-integrated agency in the space — our proprietary dashboard and automation tools give our clients a level of visibility and speed that traditional agencies can't match. We're a small, fast-moving team that punches way above our weight. We need someone who can own the entire email and SMS channel across our client roster — from strategy to execution to optimization.
SECTION 02: The Role
You'll own the retention channel for our entire client portfolio. Email and SMS isn't a support function here — it's a core revenue driver that works hand-in-hand with paid acquisition.
When we spend money to acquire a customer, you're the one who makes sure that customer comes back, buys again, and stays engaged.
This is an ownership role. You build the flows, design the email campaigns (Canva and other design tools welcome), segment the lists, and own the numbers. You're not waiting for someone to tell you what to send — you're looking at the data and making the calls yourself.
You'll Own:
- Klaviyo management — full ownership across all client accounts. Flows, campaigns, segments, lists, templates, deliverability — it's all yours.
- Design — build email campaigns following brand guidelines and e-commerce best practices
- Flow architecture — you design and build the automated flows that drive repeat revenue: welcome series, post-purchase, browse/cart abandonment, winback, sunset, VIP, and everything in between.
- Campaign strategy & execution — you plan the calendar, write and design the emails, build the SMS sends, and ship on time. You know when to promote, when to educate, and when to stay quiet.
- Segmentation & list health — you keep lists clean, build smart segments, and make sure the right message hits the right person. You monitor deliverability like a hawk.
- Revenue attribution — you know what email/SMS revenue actually means vs what's inflated. You report honestly and optimize for real incremental revenue.
- A/B testing — structured tests on subject lines, send times, content, offers, and flows. You document what you learn and apply it across the portfolio.
- Cross-channel coordination — you work with the Growth Strategist and media buyers to align retention with acquisition. When a big promo runs on Meta, your emails and SMS are in sync.
SECTION 03: The Team
You'll report directly to Jean Lavigne (Founder/CEO) and work alongside:
Head of Delivery: She keeps operations running. You own the email/SMS design deliverables and timelines.
Growth Strategist: They set the overall client strategy. You translate that into the retention plan and make sure email/SMS supports the bigger picture.
Media Buyers: You coordinate on promotions, launches, and seasonal pushes so paid and retention work together.
SECTION 04: What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
2+ years managing Klaviyo for D2C ecommerce brands — you've built flows and run campaigns for Shopify stores doing real revenue.
Design experience — this is not simple text emails. You know how to use Canva and other design tools to build emails that not only communicate well, they align with modern designs of the ecommerce space
Deep understanding of email/SMS flow architecture — you can design a full flow strategy from scratch, not just tweak existing templates
Strong copywriting skills — you write emails people actually open and click. You understand tone, urgency, and storytelling for D2C
Data-driven mindset — you look at open rates, click rates, revenue per recipient, and flow conversion rates to make decisions
Shopify ecosystem knowledge — you understand the customer journey from first purchase to repeat buyer and how email/SMS fits in
Strong English communication — you'll be writing customer-facing copy and internal strategy docs. Clear, natural, and persuasive
Experience with US/Canadian D2C brands — you understand the market and consumer expectations
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with SMS marketing (not just email)
Deliverability expertise (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, warming)
Experience with loyalty/rewards platforms (Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, Yotpo)
Familiarity with review platforms (Judge.me, Loox, Stamped)
Experience with subscription/replenishment flows (Recharge, Bold)
Experience with AI tools in marketing workflows
SECTION 05: What Success Looks Like
First 30 Days: Audited every client's Klaviyo account — flows, campaigns, segments, deliverability Identified the top 3 revenue opportunities per client (missing flows, broken automations, segmentation gaps) Taken over day-to-day campaign sends with no missed deadlines Built a prioritized flow buildout plan per client
First 60 Days: Core flows live and optimized across all clients (welcome, post-purchase, abandonment at minimum) Campaign cadence established — consistent sends, improving open/click rates A/B testing framework running with documented learnings Revenue from email/SMS channel growing month-over-month
First 90 Days: Full flow architecture deployed across all clients (8+ flows per account) Email/SMS contributing 25–40% of total revenue for each client Segmentation strategy driving higher engagement and lower unsubscribe rates You're the go-to voice on retention strategy in client calls and internal planning
